Hey hey hey!
So, you're feeling a bit 'out of alignment' (or PANTS to use a layman's term) and some well meaning coach or mentor comes along and tells you that you need to be more positive. "Say some positive affirmations" you hear them say. So because you're a try-er, you give it a go and that makes you feel, even more well.... PANTS. You're frustrated because it feels like you're lying to yourself. Yes, I do believe in a certain amount of 'fake it til you make it' but that's not 100% of the story.
Why is it that sometimes positive affirmations can make us feel worse? Well, it's NOT because you're not saying them enough times through the day, that's for sure. Rotating positive affirmations all day would make anyone go insane and can create toxic positivity. YUK!
